Japanese of the day!
桜:- sakura, cherry blossom.
Every spring Japan goes バナナズ (bananas) over cherry blossom.
It is said to represent the fleeting beauty of youth, in a country that idolizes the young and beautiful (sometimes to an unhealthy degree)
News stations track the “cherry blossom front” like western channels track the weather.
The kanji contains the radical for tree (木) and woman (女) so it looks like a woman being showered with delicate pink petals.
The above photo was taken outside my work. It is a famous area in Tokyo to view cherry blossom.
