So Japan has a retardiculous amount of festivals. Yesterday was Setsubun (節分) meaning seasonal division.
So officially we are in spring!
Setsubun is celebrated on February 3rd every year.During Setsubun, people throw roasted soybeans at a family member dressed up in a devil mask and shout Oni wa soto, Fuku wa uchi!; Devil out, happiness in! Why beans would kill a devil I have no idea (I mean Buffy had to like totally almost kill her sister to get rid of one)
The best bit is clearly the fuck-off huge sushi rolls you get to eat.Loading... -
Japanese of the day!
桜:- sakura, cherry blossom.Every spring Japan goes バナナズ (bananas) over cherry blossom.
It is said to represent the fleeting beauty of youth, in a country that idolizes the young and beautiful (sometimes to an unhealthy degree)
News stations track the “cherry blossom front” like western channels track the weather. The kanji contains the radical for tree (木) and woman (女) so it looks like a woman being showered with delicate pink petals.
The above photo was taken outside my work. It is a famous area in Tokyo to view cherry blossom.

March 11th
Yesterday was the year anniversary of the earthquake. It feels like it has been longer but also that it was only last week.
For a month or so after the big one, there were hundreds of smaller ones that kept Japan rocking out.
It did something weird to everyones bodies. Maybe it was our blood, maybe it was psychological but it was like a constant earthquake. Swaying back and forth in a chair while everybody else felt nothing. They are predicting that the next one will be just outside Tokyo, the Tokai earthquake is a little overdue.
Tokyo is position right on top of a chip of a tectonic plate which sounds fucking awful when you think about it, a city of 30million disappearing beneath the waves. (so come visit real soon ok kids!)Loading...
